Never Say Never

Penny was born outdoors a few years ago to one of the cats who declared our yard her home.  In October of 2008, she had six kittens, all of them orange except for one calico.  Three of the kittens were killed by a raccoon, so we broke our vow NEVER to add another cat to the indoor crew.  Our other cats were, shall we say, less than happy about the decision.

We found a great home for the little calico, whose new owners named her Sandy.  We kept Penny and the two orange siblings.  The girl's name is Cheyenne and the boy is Indiana, though I often refer to him as "Squeak."

Even though these kitties don't need loving homes, there are too many others who do.  We encourage everyone to adopt pets from shelters, and to support the groups who try to help homeless animals.  To push the point further, we encourage people not to ever buy pets from pet stores.  Their source is too often a puppy mill, where dogs are bred under horrific conditions and the puppies highly likely to have mental and physical problems as a result of inbreeding and improper socialization.

Noah's Ark, an organization here in Georgia provides rehabilitation to many animals.  In addition to the usual domestic animals, they rehab and sometimes permanently house lions, tigers, bears, and a zebra named "Evidence" found injured on I-85 as a baby.  Noah's Ark is also a Children's Care home.  They're always desperate for resources, so please consider helping them out in any way you can.
